~ Veritas Christian Co-op ~ Lebanon, Ohio ~Kindergarten (5 years) ~ Kindergarten is the first step toward developing a life long love of learning. I have many exciting activities planned, designed to enrich your child’s background and make learning fun! Each week our activities will either be theme based or literature based. (See syllabus) Our activities will cover all subject areas. Language activities are a priority in kindergarten. Through the utilization of literature books, tapes, poems, etc… children experience a language rich environment. Reading is taught by the use of literature books (reading) and phonics. The special language of the printed word is best introduced to children by reading aloud to them from a variety of sources. The desire to read is nurtured and increased when children see the necessity and joy of reading! Reading should be fun! Each class, activities will be presented that assist young children in understanding the relationship between alphabetic symbols (letters) and sounds. Eventually, children will utilize reading strategies to decode new words. The writing program builds on what each child already knows. Writing begins with scribbles, and proceeds to lines and circles, strings of letters, words and spaces, and eventually sentences. You may hear these “terms” during the year…say the word slowly, write down what you hear, kid writing, or writing phonetically. Your children will be encouraged and applauded for all attempts and accomplishments in writing. Providing a risk free environment is paramount to your children’s progress in writing. We will be utilizing the spiral notebook, as a journal, to encourage your children to write each week. If possible, provide your child with a journal, to keep at home, to write in on a daily basis. Our math program is called “Everyday Math”. The students manipulate concrete materials, such as buttons, stickers, “everyday materials” to form mathematical concepts. I’m looking forward to working with your children this year. I want your children to feel loved and happy, while developing a positive attitude toward learning. I also expect them to behave appropriately and be prepared for class each week in order to do our best learning! Supply List: School box (make sure it latches or zips
closed) Please make sure everything is labeled with your child's name. We will be keeping their materials at co-op so they will have them each week. *** There will be a snack sign up list for the year. If there is a special day , like a birthday, you would like to bring snacks on please let me know as soon as possible. Fees: None. |
